The County of Elk Commissioners dedicated a Mark Twain Bur Oak, an American Heritage Tree in honor of the Ridgway Bicentennial Celebration on June 20. This tree is planted on the County of Elk Courthouse Lawn.
The original Mark Twain Bur Oak, named the Liberty Tree Burr Oak grows outside the Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal, Missouri where Mark Twain lived. This Burr Oak was started as a seedling in 1721. It has been certified that Mark Twain played in that tree as a youth. The American Heritage Trees work with the Mark Twain Cave staff and collects seeds and propagate seedlings from the Bur Oak.
Our tree is from the American Heritage Tree Organization. The Bur Oak was planted on the Courthouse Lawn by our Certified Master Arborist, Tim Frontz. The County of Elk Commissioners are dedicating this tree in honor of the Ridgway Bicentennial Celebration.
