Public Hearing Announcement
On Friday, October 11, 2024 at 10:00am, the County of Elk Commissioners will be live streaming on Facebook the Public Hearing taking place at the Elk County Courthouse Annex, 300 Center Street in Ridgway. The purpose of this hearing is to consider for adoption a resolution or ordinance signifying an intention to organize a Health Care Authority. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Open Interviews for Deputy Sheriff
The Elk County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting open interviews for an opening in the Sheriff’s Office for a full time Deputy Sheriff. The basic function of the position is to assist the Sheriff and Chief Deputy in the day-to-day business of the sheriff’s office. This involves serving civil papers, protection from abuse orders, warrants, transporting prisoners from prison to court and to other prisons, maintain security and assistance to emergencies within the jail if requested by the warden, issue license to carry permits, preserve law and order and all other duties as assigned by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy.
High School diploma or equivalent is required. A college degree is preferred. Proficient with technology and computer operating programs is a must.
Must be physically fit and able to complete basic physical fitness and academic standards while attending the Sheriff’s Academy.
Open interviews will be conducted on October 23rd from 10 AM to 2 PM in Conference Room 2 at the Courthouse Annex located at 300 Center Steet, Ridgway, PA. Interested candidates can walk in between those hours.

Elk County Veteran Advocate Network
The County of Elk is pleased to announce the creation of the Elk County Veteran Advocate Network. Gerry Copella and Mike Straub from the County of Elk Veterans Affairs office, along with Lana Evans from PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and Olivia Luzier from James E. VanZandt have collaborated to create the Elk County Veteran Advocate Network. This network would consist of any community member, agency or organization that help Veterans. Whether it is a service they can provide, a program they offer, or just a willingness to help find a needed resource – all are welcome to become part of this network.
The Elk County Veteran Advocate Network will meet on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Meeting place will be the Thomas G. Wagner Conference Room located in the Courthouse Annex Building at 300 Center St. in Ridgway. Act 13 Application
The Elk County Commissioners have established a REIMBURSABLE grant program through the Act 13 Marcellus Shale Impact Fee for project activities within Elk County. Applicants that are eligible include municipal governing bodies, 501© (3) non-profit organizations and municipal authorities. This grant is an open application which is due by February 28th and August 31st each year. In the event that the deadline falls on a weekend, the previous Friday will be the due date. Grant requests must be a minimum of $1,000 up to the maximum amount of $10,000.
Grant award recipients will receive notification by letter that will include a cooperation agreement with the County of Elk starting their understanding of the Elk County Act 13 Program Guidelines. In order to be reimbursed, all grant recipients will be expected to submit a grant close-out report that will include copies of invoices that were used in accordance with the grant requirements, copies of cancelled checks used to pay invoices and photographs where applicable in order to receive their grant reimbursement.
