For well over a decade, residents of Elk County have been able to recycle their old refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers free of charge. The solid waste authority put a program in place whereby the recycling office pays for removal of the refrigerant from these items for Elk County residents. Currently there is one drop-off site partnering with us for the recycling of refrigerant-containing white goods.
In St. Marys, Premier Metal & Recycling provides this service. Premier Recycling (834-1239) is located at 1013 DeLaum Road in St. Marys. Residents will be asked to provide name, address, and drivers license number to verify that you are a resident of Elk County.
The Elk County Community Recycling Center will also accept smaller white goods such as dorm-sized refrigerators, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers for $15 per item. Larger items must be taken to Premier Metal & Recycling (above).
Anyone taking refrigerated white goods to Greentree Landfill in Kersey should be advised that there is a fee for the service.
